TrigStar Contest

Good at math? Test your skills and win $$$

The Trig Star Contest is an annual high school mathematics competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors. The contest, which is based on the practical application of Trigonometry, recognizes the best students from high schools throughout the nation.

The North Carolina Society of Surveyors sponsors this competition in North Carolina. If you enter the contest, an NCSS member will visit your school to administer the test. The test includes several trigonometry problems and one trigonometry and surveying problem. The test answers are scored for accuracy. If more than one student has the same high score, the student who completed the test in the shortest time is the winner. The statewide winner is eligible to compete at the national level by taking an additional test.

The statewide winner will receive a $500 cash prize, and a $500 cash prize is awarded to that student's teacher. Several local surveying chapters also sponsor prizes for the winners in their areas.

The National Society of Professional Surveyors sponsor the national level of competition.  Winners from each state take a national level exam.  The prizes are:
$2,000 Scholarship for First Place   (Teacher receives $1,000)
$1,000 Scholarship for Second Place  (Teacher receives  $500)
$500 Scholarship for Third Place  (Teacher received $250)
